Why use this DjVu to EPUB converter

No upload

Your books never leave your device. Nothing is sent to a server or stored anywhere.

Text that fits your screen

Unlike a scan, an EPUB reflows: change the font and size on a small e-reader and the text adapts.

Chapters in the contents

The book's table of contents, or the chapter headings in its text, become the EPUB's contents.

Real paragraphs

Lines are joined back into paragraphs, words split at line ends are mended, and page headers are left out.

Works on any device

Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android: all you need is a recent browser.

Free, no limits

No sign-up, no watermark, no ads, and no limit on file size or number of books.

DjVu or EPUB: which to read?

DjVu keeps a book exactly as printed: every page is a picture of the scan. That's ideal on a tablet or computer, but on a 6-inch e-reader the pages are tiny. EPUB is text that reflows to fit the screen, so it reads comfortably on any e-reader. See DjVu vs EPUB for more.

This converter takes the book's hidden text layer, the text recognised when it was scanned, and rebuilds it into paragraphs and chapters. Pictures and the look of the pages stay in the DjVu, and the text is as good as the scan's recognition. Scans without a text layer can't be converted.

On iPhone and iPad, DjVu Reader opens the original DjVu directly, with the pages as printed. For a Russian e-reader format, there's also DjVu to FB2.

DjVu to EPUB: questions and answers

Yes. There's no sign-up, watermark or limit, because the conversion runs on your own device instead of our servers.

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your books never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.

Yes. Kindles read EPUB files sent with Amazon's Send to Kindle (by email, app or website), which converts them for your device.

Some DjVu books are only pictures of pages, with no text layer. The converter doesn't run OCR (text recognition), so there's no text to put in an EPUB. You can still read the book in our online DjVu viewer.

No: the EPUB holds the book's text, paragraphs and chapters. For pictures, diagrams and the exact look of the pages, keep the DjVu or convert it to PDF.

The text is as good as the scan's recognition. Modern scans are usually very accurate; old books and faded print can have misread letters.
