Why turn images into a DjVu book?
Photos of pages and scanner output pile up as dozens of separate pictures. As one DjVu book they open as a single file, keep their order, and take far less space: DjVu stores the black text of a page apart from its background, so a page of text often shrinks from a few megabytes as a photo to a few dozen kilobytes.
The converter looks at each picture. Pages that are text on paper become black and white at full resolution, which keeps letters readable at any zoom; pages with photos, drawings or colour are kept in colour. Images are turned upright by their camera orientation, and transparent PNGs get a white page behind them.
To read the book, open it in our free online DjVu viewer. Have a PDF instead? Use PDF to DjVu. To add the new pages to another book, use Merge DjVu.
