Why use this DjVu to Word converter

No upload

Your books never leave your device. Nothing is sent to a server or stored anywhere.

Real paragraphs

Lines are joined back into paragraphs, words split at line ends are mended, and page headers and numbers are left out.

Chapters as headings

The book's contents become Word headings, so you can jump between chapters in the navigation pane.

Any language

Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese and every other script come out correctly, with the book's old spelling kept as printed.

Works on any device

Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android: all you need is a recent browser.

Free, no limits

No sign-up, no watermark, no ads, and no limit on file size or number of books.

Where does the text come from?

Many DjVu books carry a hidden text layer under the scanned pages: the text recognised when the book was scanned. This converter takes that text, puts the lines back into paragraphs the way the book was set, and saves it as a Word document with the book's chapters as headings.

The document holds the text only: pictures, tables and the look of the pages stay in the DjVu. How good the text is depends on the scan's recognition; a clean modern scan converts almost word for word, while an old or faded one keeps its recognition mistakes. Scans without a text layer have nothing to convert.

For e-readers, choose EPUB or FB2 instead. For the plain text alone, use DjVu to TXT, and to keep the pages exactly as printed, DjVu to PDF.

DjVu to Word: questions and answers

Yes. There's no sign-up, watermark or limit, because the conversion runs on your own device instead of our servers.

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your books never leave your device. You can even disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded.

Some DjVu books are only pictures of pages, with no text layer underneath. There's no text to put in a document then: the converter doesn't run OCR (text recognition). You can still read the book in our online DjVu viewer or convert it to PDF.

It has the book's words, paragraphs and chapters, in a clean, editable layout. Pictures, tables, columns and the original fonts aren't copied. To keep every page exactly as printed, convert to PDF instead.

The text is as good as the scan's recognition. Modern scans are usually very accurate; old books and faded print can have misread letters, which you can fix in Word.

Yes. When the book has a table of contents, each chapter becomes a heading. Without one, chapter headings found in the text ("CHAPTER II", "Part One") are used.

Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, LibreOffice and WPS Office all open .docx files, on computers and phones.

Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser, tap Choose files and pick the book. The document opens in Word or Pages on your phone.
